Why does my hair feel so dry since moving to Colorado?
It's the elevation. We sit up around 5,400 feet — higher and drier than almost anywhere else most people in this country live. The air is thin, there's less oxygen, and moisture just doesn't stick around the way it does at lower elevations — it evaporates fast, off your skin, your hair, everything. Winter makes it worse: once that thin, dry outside air gets pulled inside and heated, whatever moisture was left disappears completely. Add moderately hard water and hair that was fine almost anywhere else in the country can feel straw-like within a season here. It's correctable — heavier conditioning, gloss on a schedule, a chelating wash for mineral buildup, and a humidifier at home does more than most products.
Why does my color fade so fast here?
Same root cause: elevation. We're higher up than almost anywhere else in the country, which means more direct sun on your color, day after day, even when it's cold or cloudy — there's simply less atmosphere up here to filter it. Add mineral-heavy water dulling the tone underneath, and color doesn't hold the way it would somewhere lower and wetter. Blondes and redheads notice it fastest, since lighter pigment always breaks down first. A gloss every few weeks between full color services is the most effective fix, and it's the least expensive service on our menu.
Does the altitude actually damage my hair?
The dryness is real. The oxygen story people worry about isn't the cause of it — at our elevation, blood oxygen levels in healthy people aren't meaningfully affected, so claims that altitude slows hair growth or shuts down follicles don't hold up. What actually changes is behavior: hair hangs straighter, curls lose spring, and volume drops in thin, dry air, which reads as "my hair is thinner here" when the hair itself hasn't changed. We'd rather tell you that than sell you a treatment for a problem you don't have.
