Join Our Team
Mahne Roots Collective is a team of stylists in Broomfield who believe the work is better — and the career behind the chair is better — when it’s built together.
If you’re a stylist who takes real pride in how a guest feels, who wants to keep getting better for your whole career, and who would rather be part of a team than rent a room, we’d like to meet you.
Why This Salon Exists
Nicole was working in editorial hair — Vogue, Balmain, fashion week — and behind the chair at the same time. She couldn’t find a single salon willing to support both.
So she and Miles built one. That’s the whole reason Mahne Roots is here: to close the gap between what happens in the editorial world and what actually makes it into a salon for everyday clients. We named it a Collective on purpose — every stylist here gives a genuinely different experience, not an interchangeable one.
If you’ve ever felt like your ambition was bigger than the room you were working in, you already understand why we started this.
A Team, Not a Room You Rent
We’re a commission salon, and that’s a deliberate choice.
Plenty of salons will rent you a chair and leave you to it. That works for some people. But it means you’re a solo business who happens to share a roof — nobody is developing you, nobody is covering you on a hard day, and nobody has any stake in whether you’re better in three years than you are now.
We’re built the other way round. We share education, we share what we know, and we hold a standard together. When someone here gets better, everybody’s work gets better.
A stylist can move faster alone. A career gets built further with a team behind it.
You Shouldn’t Have to Starve to Get Good
Here’s the part most salons won’t tell you honestly: the hardest stretch of a stylist’s career is the beginning, when your skills are growing faster than your book is.
Most places hand you a commission split and wish you luck. If the chair is empty, you don’t get paid. That’s a brutal way to learn a craft, and it pushes good people out of the industry before they ever get a fair run at it.
We do it differently. Newer stylists join us on an hourly wage while they build their book, working alongside us as we develop their skills, their consultation habits, and their clientele — until they reach the point where commission genuinely works in their favor and they can sustain a career in this industry on their own terms.
We’re not doing you a favor by paying you while you learn. We think that should be normal.
Who We’re Looking For
Stylists who lead with care. Specifically, people who:
- Treat the consultation as the service. Technical skill matters enormously, but a client remembers whether they felt heard. Every appointment here starts with a real conversation and an honest plan — including when the honest answer is “not in one visit.”
- Want to keep growing. Our best people are never finished learning. They ask questions, they want to be coached, and they’re better every year.
- Show up for the team. You share what you know, you help the person next to you, and their wins feel like yours.
- Set expectations honestly. We’d rather you tell a client a transformation takes three visits than promise it in one and compromise their hair.
This Isn’t the Right Fit for Everyone
We’ll be straight about who this isn’t for, because the wrong fit isn’t fair to anyone.
This isn’t the place for big egos — we celebrate each other’s work rather than compete for the spotlight. It isn’t the place for someone who wants to do everything alone; if your goal is to run a solo operation out of a rented chair, you’ll genuinely be happier somewhere else, and there are good salons nearby that do exactly that.
And it isn’t the place for anyone who already knows everything. The people who do well here are still curious, still asking, still open to being coached.
We say that plainly on purpose. If reading it makes you want in, let’s talk.
What You’ll Find Here
Two very different mentors
Nicole works across color and editorial — 2016 NAHA Men’s Hairstylist of the Year, former USA Cutting Director for Balmain Hair Couture, editorial work in Vogue Italia and Vogue Mexico, and over ten years working Paris and New York Fashion Week. She has taught through the Aveda Institute, and she’s mentored a student stylist to a NAHA nomination of their own.
Miles trained through Vidal Sassoon and TONI&GUY, two of the most respected precision-cutting academies in the industry. If you want your cutting to get sharper, that’s who you’ll be standing next to.
Most salons have one person worth learning from. You’d have access to two, working in genuinely different disciplines.
Development that goes past technique
“Mentorship” is a word salons use loosely, so here is specifically what we mean by it.
Technical range. There will be services you aren’t ready to take on yet. We work with you until you are — not by handing you a manual, but by putting you next to someone doing the work.
Charging properly. Most stylists undercharge for years and nobody ever tells them. We will teach you what your time and skill are actually worth, and how to price it without apologizing.
Consulting properly. Nearly every problem in this industry starts in the consultation. Learning to set honest expectations — including telling someone their goal takes three visits rather than one — protects the client’s hair and your reputation at the same time.
Finding your voice. We are a Collective because every stylist here gives a genuinely different experience, not an interchangeable one. Part of the work is figuring out where your real talent sits and building a point of view that is yours.
Know what you are good at — but don’t let it become a box you can’t get out of.
That tension is deliberate. We want you known for something, and we want you to keep expanding what you are capable of. Both, not one or the other. That is what we mean by bringing more value to you as a stylist — not just to the salon.
Color education that isn’t a weekend seminar
Every color service here is done with Davines, and we carry Aveda alongside it — two lines with serious education behind them and a real point of view about hair health. You’ll learn them properly, not from a pamphlet.
An editorial standard applied to everyday hair
The technique that comes out of fashion week doesn’t stay in fashion week here. That’s the entire premise of the salon, and it shapes how we cut, color, and consult on an ordinary Tuesday.
As Far As You’re Willing to Push
Here is what we believe, and it is the reason everything above exists.
You can grow as much as you are willing to push yourself. That ability is already in you. But it stays potential until you physically act on it — nobody has ever gotten better by intending to.
We will give you the training, the mentorship, the room to develop, and a wage while you build. What we cannot do is want it for you.
Pushing yourself is what builds the confidence. You find out what you are actually made of.
That is not something anyone can hand you. You earn it — and once you have, it is yours for the rest of your career, wherever it takes you.
Roles We Hire
Stylists — experienced stylists and colorists who want a real team, a high standard, and room to keep growing for the long haul. Commission, with a clear path as you build.
Developing Stylists — newer licensed stylists ready to learn the craft properly. You’ll start on an hourly wage while we work with you on your skills and your book, moving to commission as your clientele grows.
Even if nothing is formally posted, if you’ve read this far and it sounds like you, reach out anyway. We’d much rather meet the right person early.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Mahne Roots hiring?
We’re always interested in meeting stylists who are the right fit, even between formal openings. If the team and the values on this page sound like you, email us.
Do you hire newer stylists?
Yes. Newer licensed stylists start on an hourly wage while building their clientele, working closely with us on technique, consultation, and business habits until commission works in their favor.
Are you commission or booth rental?
Commission, deliberately. We’re a team rather than a set of independent businesses sharing a space, and being commission-based is what makes shared education and real mentorship possible.
What does the mentorship actually cover?
Technical range so you can take on services you aren’t ready for yet, pricing your work properly, running an honest consultation, and identifying where your real strengths are so you can build a point of view of your own. The goal is to make you more valuable as a stylist, not just more useful to us.
What products do you use?
Davines for all color services, with Aveda carried alongside it.
Do I need my own clientele to apply?
No. Experienced stylists with an established book are very welcome, but our hourly-while-you-build model exists precisely so that newer stylists don’t need one to start.
